 | | | | | Set among the vines of the chateau Smith-Haut-Lafitte, the original Vinotherapie spa, offering a unique range of health and beauty treatments in a superb natural setting. | | Spa Details | Les Sources de Caudalie is a unique concept that brings together the sophistication of the grape, the art of haute cuisine, the Grand Cru Château Smith-Haute-Lafitte and thermal springs.
The Spa offers an exclusive programme of treatments in a setting of unusual beauty. These treatments are unique combining the virtues of naturally warm spring water rich in iron and fluorine, taken from a depth of 540 metres, with vine and grape extracts. The latter have a high concentration of polyphenols, which help fight against free radicals – responsible for 80% of ageing.
The treatment programmes are an interesting variation on traditional French Thalassotherapy programmes and consist of 4 half hour treatments a day: including vinotherapy treatments such as wine baths, honey and wine wraps, and jet showers in combination with face and body treatments using the Caudalie products. | | Accommodation and Other Facilties | The rooms and suites are all different, and all have been individually and charmingly decorated with themes ranging from coopers to famous collectors who all share a passion for wine.
The 2 restaurants are managed by chef Frank Selein, who aims to highlight fine, fresh local produce and to make delicious healthy food in tune with the seasons.
The Gourmet restaurant 'La Grand Vigne' was inspired by 18th Century Orangeries, its terrace overlooks a lake at the bottom of a vine covered slope. The country inn 'La Table Du Lavoir'is a true inn where grape pickers came to wash their clothing in the 19th Century. The magnificent old fashioned hall was re-built stone by stone and is authentic up to the re-discovered laundry beaters on which the menus are now hung.
'Aux Sources de la Minceur' cuisine is available in both restaurants, where the chef's talent comes through in menus which are full of flavour, but low in calories (under 500 calories per meal).
As would be expected Caudalie boasts a 15,000 bottle wine cellar and in the restaurants the sommelier works closely with the chef to identify the perfect wine for each dish.
The deep leather armchairs of the Cigar room right at the top of the main building are perfect to sink into with a glass of Cognac after dinner. | | Additional Information | | It is possible to visit neighbouring Chateaux by bicycle or limousine, as well as estates in the Medoc, Sauternes, Pomerol or Saint-Emilion regions. Cookery classes are available with Frank Selein as well as wine tasting courses. |
